Data Source

This calculator uses official Consumer Price Index (CPI) data from two authoritative sources:

• Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) - For regional metropolitan area CPI data
• Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) - For US National Average CPI data

CPI measures the average change over time in the prices paid by urban consumers for a market basket of consumer goods and services.

How It Works

The calculator uses the formula:
Value in Year B = Value in Year A × (CPI Year B / CPI Year A)

This adjusts the monetary value based on changes in purchasing power over time.
